Did Sam fugate advise Isassi @ Grand Jury Proceedings?

(July 20, 2007)--Kleberg County Attorney Alfred Isassi is facing misdemeanor charges of abusing of his official powers.

A Kleberg County grand jury has indicted Isassi on one count of abuse of official capacity and three counts of exercising improper influence.

As county attorney, Isassi is responsible for prosecuting misdemeanors.

The indictment stems from the arrest of a relative on a felony count of evading in a vehicle in 2005.

The charges allege Isassi told an assistant district attorney that the charges were to be dismissed.

The indictment also alleges that he told employees of the county probation department that the relative didn't have to report for pre-trial supervision.

Kingsville Mayor Sam R. Fugate is a lawyer who's advising Isassi but hasn't been formally retained.

He says he's sure the case will come out in Isassi's favor.

Meanwhile, Kleberg County Judge Pete De La Garza says Isassi will continue to represent the county.
